Understand the Editorial Role

Editors oversee manuscript submissions, manage peer review, and ensure fair, timely, and unbiased editorial decisions.

Editorial Responsibilities

  • Ensure the integrity, quality, and relevance of all published content.
  • Maintain confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and reviewer identities.
  • Avoid conflicts of interest with submitted work.
  • Uphold ethical standards outlined by COPE and ICMJE.

Manuscript Handling and Peer Review

  • Conduct an initial assessment for scope, originality, ethical compliance, and adherence to journal format.
  • Assign qualified reviewers based on expertise, availability, and conflict-free status.
  • Monitor timely completion of reviews and provide guidance when necessary.
  • Evaluate reviewer reports and make decisions: Accept, Minor Revision, Major Revision, Reject.
  • Ensure a constructive, double-blind (or single-blind, if applicable) review process.

Communication Standards

  • Communicate decisions clearly, professionally, and respectfully.
  • Provide authors with specific, actionable feedback for improvement.
  • Handle appeals objectively with additional review, when required.

Ethical Oversight

  • Ensure manuscripts include ethical approval for human/animal studies.
  • Screen for plagiarism, data manipulation, duplicate publication, and image integrity issues.
  • Address suspected misconduct with transparency and COPE-aligned procedures.

Editorial Integrity

  • Editors must not use unpublished data from submissions for personal research.
  • All decisions must be evidence-based, not influenced by personal relationships or external pressure.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all editorial discussions and documents.

Quality and Consistency

  • Ensure clarity, academic rigor, and scientific validity in all accepted manuscripts.
  • Confirm that articles meet formatting, referencing, and language standards.
  • Verify accuracy of figures, tables, and images, ensuring proper permissions and citations.

Continuous Improvement

  • Stay updated with evolving publishing ethics and best practices.
  • Suggest innovations to improve peer review, publication workflow, and journal visibility.
